Just a quick update today - I'm in the midst of party planning and surrounded by unicorn and disco decorations!
So what happened in July 2017?
During July I created a middle grades picture book study based on Mem Fox's I'm Australian Too. This was a great opportunity to dig into a really excellent book and explore what it means to be Australian.
I also finished off the Year 6 Australian Civics and Citizenship units by creating mini units on the Australian Citizenship Pledge, the Rights and Responsibilities of Australian Citizenship and Global Citizenship. These were bundled together with other Year 6 Units, Word Walls and Assessment resources to make a massive Year 6 Civics and Citizenship Bundle.
I've also been busy blogging. I looked at 5 Galarious Goods Resources I Love, Books to Use When Teaching Australian Social Studies, Book for Fans of the Ruins of Gorlan and 4 High Interest Ways to Make Law-Making Lessons Fun.
Behind the Scenes
We're birthday party central here, right now! Just a few days until I'll have a 5 year old and we're celebrating with a great group of his friends.
We're also enjoying the beautiful Queensland winter weather. Last week we went strawberry picking at a local field - lots of teaching ideas came to mind while I was eating the fresh strawberries!
I've started working on a new book study - the marvellous Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson. I also have a pile of other books to work my way through and some plans to create Year 4 Australian Civics and Citizenship resources
Keep an eye on Instagram for more updates!
Hope you have had a great July and you've got a great August on the way!
